Been walking up from dogpatch since 2010. In almost a decade the quality of the food has not changed one iota. Always been the freshest mexican food i've had in the city. the staff is always incredible. every time i have guests visiting from out of the city this is the spot I take them to for a casual meal, incredible views of the city from potrero hill for desert. My top two dishes:
#1 the mother load: the super burrito with fried chicken will seriously mess with you. you'll never be able to look at another burrito with the same affection again knowing that somewhere out there, on a hill in san francisco there is a burrito that combines top shelf mexican ingredients with the crispy steamy crunch of some fresh fried chicken. and yes it's big enough for 2 meals, but i'll tell you what, you put that puppy down in one and of course you're gonna be shall we say satisfied, but you're not gonna feel like you just ate a greasebomb of shame because the ingredients are just so so fresh.
#2 the secret weapon: the Posole. i know, you don't usually go to a restaurant and expect the soup to be one of the best entrees available, but calling the posole at papito a soup is like calling van gough's starry night oil on canvas, technically it's true but grow a soul you double tapping cyborg. it's filling, flavorful, and you get that added bonus of wearing the cowl of mysterious certainty. you know things, you read menus like neo sees the matrix, you have your finger on the zeitgeist, you order the posole. red or green? puppies or kittens? sunrises or sunsets? there's no wrong choice.
bonus round contenders: the sopa ranchera (bowl portion) another killer secret soup entree and the NAchOs are a fun mouth fiesta, but really... can't go wrong. VIVA PAPITO! -

This l'il gem tucked high atop Potrero Hill is my jam. For real. Having a bit of Mexican blood in my veins, I measure all Mexican comida against that of my late, beloved abuela - so that's a relatively high bar to reach. But I'm tellin' you now, Papito's Pozole is the real deal.
Given that I work in the hood, my Friday treat is Pozole from Papito's and it's consistently spot on. You pick either the red or green variation and chose your meat (I usually get the chicken). You get a generous portion with all the fixings including shredded cabbage, radish and avocado accompanied by a few totlrtillas to sop up every last ounce of soupy heaven.
I've also enjoyed the rustic shrimp enchiladas which were absolutely scrumptious - perfect combination of garlic shrimp, beans and Jack cheese.
Lastly, you MUST order the guac. It's superb - just the right blend of flavors - Tang from the lime, slight touch of garlic and creamy avo. Absolute heaven. -

I had the quesadilla the first time I went here, and it was decent. It was stuffed with guacamole, sour cream, etc. but I don't think I loved it because of the fact it is fried chicken.
I got nachos the second time and it was my favorite out of the two! I don't think they have grilled chicken except possibly for the fajitas. -

Excellent portions, affordable, good food and a lovely restaurant with a great view. Papito is the best!

This cute little spot on Potrero Hill is my new favorite Mexican. It's all about ingredients, fresh and clean. The menu is not simple but it's not complicated either. There are twists on old goodies that keep me trying things. Pretty much everything has been good so far. There was a little freshness of the chips between visits, but that's it. The crew is always cool and helpful, the ambiance is very chill and inviting and it's quaint. Get the side of guacamole for your appetizer if it's just you or two, the whole order is huge. Try all of the salsas, and enjoy!
